OPERATING GRANTS
The Society, through its objectives and the support of Calgary's Scottish Community, is making available funds to assist groups that share our objectives in Calgary and area, with their operating costs. These grants are given upon request, using the forms found below, when the funds are available and have limitations. Operating grants can only be used to assist a group's operations in Alberta for the benefit of Albertans.
The current limits the Society will grant are:
Clan Associations - $1,000
Scottish Country Dance Groups - $2,000
Highland Games Associations - $3,000
In the event the Society has more requests than funds available, a ratio will be applied to each request and the grant will be in the resultant amount.

The Society will only consider applications from non-profit, volunteer organizations that conform to the Society's own objectives.
Society Objectives:
The Society is a non-profit organization based in Calgary whose purposes are to:
a) Provide a social venue for persons interested in Scottish cultural activities.
b) Cultivate and foster an appreciation for Scottish cultural performance.
c) Contribute to education in and performance of Scottish cultural activities.
d) Assist members of the public and the Society who are in need.
e) Provide bursaries or scholarships to deserving individuals.
f) Facilitate the recording and preservation of the Scottish origin, contribution and character of Calgary and area.
Gaming proceeds is the source of funds and the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission permits the Society to make donations to eligible groups.
The following directions refer to the forms that may be found at the bottom of the page:
Groups are non-profit clubs or organizations - you do not have to be a registered society,
Organization – who the cheque is to be made out to – organization bank account is the best – we will not make an operating grant payable to, or for the benefit of, an individual,
Amount – request must be backed up with copies of receipts - receipts can exceed the limits set above but the grant will not, (exception: Highland Games Association requests do not need copies of receipts),
Purpose – categories of assistance: postage, photocopy, stationery, books, DVDs, CDs, rent, tuition, equipment, instructional fees, judges, haggis, mothership dues with amount.(not eligible – food and drink, personal expenses, etc.)
Address – where the cheque is to be sent.
Anniversary date will be the date of first submission.
The Society will consider special requests beyond the limits set, but will need details submitted in the form of a letter, will have to secure special permission, and may only grant a portion of the request.

What to do
Make copies of the original form
Collect one year of receipts, (exception: Highland Games Association requests do not need copies of receipts)
Sort, tally and photocopy the receipts – clear copies please
Complete the application
Photocopy the application
Attach receipts photocopy to the application original and mail in (address on the form)
Attach the original receipts to the application photocopy and file for future reference.
Wait for the cheque and contact us if nothing has happened in 6 weeks.
