The St Andrew-Caledonian Society
of Calgary
The St. Andrew Society of Calgary was formed in 1884 to celebrate the feast day of St Andrew and has survived to the present day as an organization which assists those who participate in or perform Scottish cultural activity. The Society held its first Caledonian Highland Games in August 1913 at Victoria Park and is now offering its twelfth indoor competition as a completion of the indoor competing season and to prepare pipers and drummers for the upcoming outdoor competitions.

The Society defines a competitor as a registered entrant
who has commenced playing in their registered event. To qualify for an Aggregate
award, a registrant must compete and finish in all events for that the chosen
grade. For all amateur events, the number of prizes shall be awarded, at the
judge's discretion, as shown in the following table:

RULES
1. A contestant
may enter as many events as desired in one Grade level per instrument but may
play up or down for Piobaireachd only.
2.
Each competitor must wear their competing number easily visible on the
front.
3. Order of play will be the
reverse order of paid entry, and stewards can amend the order of play based on
competitors present maintaining the reverse order of paid entry.
4. Competitors must check in with the event steward 15
minutes prior to playing.
5. Competitors
who are not ready to play or fail to follow the Steward's direction, may be
disqualified.
6. Each competitor must
appear in highland dress with shoes, hose, kilt and shirt being the minimum
requirement. For beginners, Boys-dress pants, shirt and shoes; Girls-skirt,
blouse and shoes.
7. Competitors will be
allowed three minutes tuning time.
8.Objections must be made in writing accompanied by a
cheque for $11.00 within one half hour of the posting of the results. If the
objection is upheld, the cheque will be returned.
CLASSES
Beginners - those competitors who are not proficient and
have not competed on bagpipes or drums as a soloist nor in a
band.
Grade V - novice players on
bagpipes and drums who are in their first year of competition.
Grade IV - beginning players on bagpipes and drums who
have not competed at a higher level.
Grade III - junior players on bagpipes and drums who have
not competed at a higher level.
Grade II
- senior players on bagpipes and drums who have not competed at a higher
level.
Grade I - senior players on
bagpipes and drums who have not competed at a higher level.
Open - professional and Grade I & II competitors.
